The boys finally made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Woo!
Thursday, October 4th, 2012
1:01 pm

Not that it realistically  matters, but this year's list of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will FINALLY include Rush, Heart, and Deep Purple. They'll probably pick some unknown like the Paul Butterfield Blues Band or something.

I know, I know, the RnRHoF is a joke, but at least the boys are getting the notoriety they've long deserved.

Clockwork Angels tour
I saw Rush at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Great show, as always, but it was... kinda different. My review is one big spoiler, so I'll link to it, here.

Katy Perry's band plays "Cygnus X-1"
How have I not seen this? It's from 2009.

It looks like Katy closes the show with "I Kissed a Girl" and at the very end her band works in a bit of "Cygnus X-1".

Looking for a few Live Bootlegs...
Hey guys. I've been stumped trying to find some bootlegs online, so I figured I'd ask here.
I'm looking for the following audio bootlegs:
"An Absolut Rush" - http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=104
"A Pass Through Mountain View" - http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=84
"Kingdom Of Fire, Chapter IV" - http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=1692
"Rhythms Of The Night" - http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=1065

Lossy or Lossless doesn't matter, but high-quality MP3s will do just fine for me for these shows above.

I could also use:
"A Desert Passage PE" - http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=31

The Retro New Album
Just getting into the new album, a month and a half late due to another Russian post ripoff. They failed to deliver the Classic rock fanpack and I finally got the regular CD here in Moscow...

After the first two songs I expected something epic, like "Counterparts" with sharper production. Yet now I think the music got retro taste, back into the band's 70s with modern arrangements, with even "By-tor" snippets. It sounds a bit like "Lakeside Park" from the "Subdivisions" tribute album, old stuff with modern epic sound.

And of course it's Neil's personal album, looks like his old dream of a new story came true. As if Alex and Geddy are mostly playing along to his design this time.

And waiting for the novelization to explore that universe.

Wow, no birthday wishes for Geddy?
Well then let me be the first. Happy Birthday Geddy!

2012 Olympic games

I just Photoshopped this. Think they'll use it? If it they sold it on a shirt, I'd buy it.

I love Rush. I always have.

But can we slap Neil for "Excitement so thick - you could cut it with a knife"?

And slap Geddy for not saying "Come on, Neil, think for another half hour and come up with something else."

What's the best thing on Feedback?
I don't usually like covers albums, but Feedback is pretty decent.

So what do you think is the best track on there? For me, it's "Crossroads."

More about Clockwork Angels
Hey there,

I do an Internet radio broadcast on Tuesday nights from 9 until 3 am. I call it Musical Conversations. It's a lot of fun and I use the interactivity of the Internet to make it more of a conversation. Send on direct messages if you're interested in listening. I rebroadcast it on Friday nights (technically Saturday mornings) starting at 1 am on Plaza-Midwood Community Radio, which you can get at http://www.pmcradio.org and that's a constantly broadcasting station as opposed to what I do through my own server and it's usually only on Tuesday nights.

All that aside, I featured Clockwork Angels this past episode. It allowed me the opportunity to listen again, even deeper and closer than I had on my journey to/from Pittsburgh last week. More impressions...

To me, this is their best work since Presto. I love Presto and when it came out I cheered that it was a departure from the keyboard-heavy stuff. This album is a continued progression. I really look forward to hearing things like Headlong Flight and the Garden live.

Is it just me or is Geddy's voice the best it has ever been?

Picked up the new CD today

It usually takes me a few listens before I like a new album. On the first listen, I'm not too impressed. To me, all the songs sound pretty much the same. I'm hoping I'll like it more after a few plays. It's another concept album, although it's a pretty loose story. Not as detailed as 2112 or Hemispheres.

Here's an interview with Geddy, talking about the album:

And this is a pretty good Q&A session with Geddy:

Geddy Lee died again (a different Geddy, thank God)

Snippet from the article:
"A person who was at Cascade Creek to gather material for a fish tank found the body of John Michael Geddy Lee Arleth V on March 31. The discovery happened in the 300 block of 11th Avenue Northwest, about two blocks south of Civic Center Drive.

I'd think having "Geddy Lee" in my name would be enough reason to live!

got 'em
I got my tickets for Minneapolis, on September 24th. Seats are fair, and the price wasn't more than I expected. TicketBastard is a pain in the ass, but I won't annoy you with that story. The important thing is that I'm going to see Rush!

tour dates
You didn't tell me the tour was announced!

No Milwaukee show this time, so either Chicago or Minneapolis for us. September's a long way off. I'm a little surprised they're starting so late, since the album is due out in a month.

Now we have to wait until SEPTEMBER for the new album??!!
Another delay? No, it's April Fool's Day. The album is still on schedule for May 29. Even better news, they'll be releasing a new single, "Headlong Angels" "Headlong Flight" on the 19th.
